We recently caught up with Fran Cotton, ex rugby captain for England. Fran was gracious enough to answer a few questions for us.
We asked Fran “who do you see as the rising star of this year’s England six nation’s squad?” Here is what Fran had to say;
“Tom Wood. It really baffled me why he had so little game time in the World Cup after being England’s outstanding player during last year’s Six Nations. He is potentially a future England captain.”
Fran continues;
“Sam Warburton of Wales is also one to keep an eye on. The Welsh have got to look to the future and keep him as permanent captain; he is only 23 and already an outstanding flanker who will only get better.”
We asked Fran what do you make of England’s chances this year?, Fran replied; “It’s impossible to predict how it will go; whether youthful exuberance takes them through or we end up with the wooden spoon it’s impossible to call it. Even with a winning blend of youth and experience in last year’s competition when we were tested against a fierce Irish squad the inexperience showed – this current squad is even more inexperienced!”
And Fran’s tip to win?
“France. They have a superb new coach in Philippe Saint-André who is outstanding at getting the best out of his players; it’s something he did very well when he was at Sale Sharks. It spells danger to the rest of the teams and I expect them to win the championship.”
After huge success as an international rugby player through the 70s, Fran Cotton founded Cotton Traders in 1987 with fellow rugby legend Steve Smith which specialises in casual clothing providing everything from England rugby shirts to Menswear.
